Learning 2.0 What Comes Next

While I know this can't go on forever, I'm sad to see it end. I hope there will be more opportunities like 2.0 learning (perhaps in 2008) as technology and the internet change and new websites and accounts become available.

Because it all hinges on the computer, I would like to achieve greater computer literacy. I would like something like learning 2.0 just for the computer. I think the library system as well as patrons would greatly benefit from this increased knowledge. There are still way too many computer questions that I can't answer.

But thanks for increasing my knowledge in Learning 2.0!!!

Learning 2.0 Experience

I really enjoyed doing this. It's great to learn anytime, and it's wonderful to have a job position where you can learn as you work. 2.0 is a whole new world that was foreign to me, but now is becoming familar. I'm happy to be in touch with what is going on in the world on the web. Once I was sitting in Starbuck's as some young people sat directly in front of me talking about their myspace accounts. Before I wouldn't have understood anything, but now I could!! And with these teens and preteens coming into the library we all need to be in touch with with they're doing on the computers. Also, with google librarian and google teacher coming into play--all add based accounts--it's important for the library with their expensive pre-screened, reliable databases to be their for the public to use. I just wish the public could distinguish between the library and google. And it's really crucial for the library with it's databases to be in important in the life of all people, especially the young.

Overall, I thought the format was great. It was simple and easy to understand and an easy way to learn. At first I read everything thoroughly, then learned I had to skim and go faster because it was taking too much time. Yes, I would love to see similar training opportunities. Yes!! I'd participate in the program again.

And once again, if this posting doesn't read as well as it could (misspellings, etc.) it's because we're busy and, as much as I LOVE learning I'm trying to get back to the job.

Favoriets?? Flicker, anything to do with videos, music. The feeds, library thing--just come to mind without going back to look at my notes. I like My Space, and blogging, although I don't know if My Space would be right for me.

Choose your own adventure

I picked 2.0 awards. There were many different catagories to choose from, many of which could be adopoted for library use. I looked at much, events, books and visual arts, along with podcasts.

Thttp://odeo.com/he podcast I picked was ODEO. I think podcasts could be especially useful in the library

Video on YouTube

Once again, this was great fun. I listened to both piano and guitar soloists. After talking with other staff members, I became aware of the incredibly funny and interesting videos on You Tube which I'd like to explore one day when I have more time.

And yes, the possibilities for KCLS seem endless. In addition to those already listed, how about new staff orientation as well as orientation in particular job catagories? I think most people enjoy learning via the video so I imagine the use of video will increase dramaticly in years to come.

Google Labs

Like everything else in Learning 2.0, it was fun to discover Google labs. It was like being in a luxury hotel, where you could have everything you ever wanted, and they were always coming up with new things you'd never thought of.

I liked google maps, google scholar, google transit, and google glossary, to mention a few. But I could certainly make use of the others, too. And I loved googles easy way to search.

On line Software

This was really fun to learn about. I can see lots of possibilites for using this softwear right now, and also possibilites for learning more about it and using other aspects in the future. For right now, I think it would be perfect for collobration on a novel. Or how about getting library staff input on, say, a remodel?

web 2.0

Web 2.0 will take the library into a new way of combining the internet and all it's potential with all the we have available in the library. It is the way of the future, and the way that people will be looking for and accessing information.

Wikis

I enjoyed the SJCPL Subject Guides wiki, ALA MidWinter 2007 Wiki and the library wiki examples especially library outreach wiki. The subject guides for SJCPL are so easy and fast to use, and because it's a wiki the lastest and most current information is available. The ALA MidWinter 2007 wiki is especially useful for people unable to attend the conference. I also argree with what was stated in the podcast: that it would be very helpful to have a wiki for what is going on at the library each day. It is much fastest that reading all that e-mail, and entries can be added and deleted easily. Overall, I think the wiki has expanded knowledge, and made knowledge more available to all kinds of people

Library Thing

http://www.librarything.com/addbooks.php?welcome=1

It was great to discover Library Thing. Since people who work in libraries are book lovers, it's great to classify your favorite books. And it's so easy to use!!! I love the tags for easy reference. Now I'll have to take that long list of "books I want to read someday" and enter it into Library Thing

Bookmarks

Bookmarks are a great way to organize the information in your favorite websites. And tags are a wonderful means of finding that information quickly. It's also very useful to see the tags other people use and to read their comments . I think bookmarking would enable you to reasearch more easily and efficently

My Space

It was an interesting experience to set up a my space account. I liked the potential it offered - information about oneself and especially a space for friends, and how friends need to be approved first. I just wished it was safer.

Also, the other day while I was as Starbucks I overheard two young people talking about their myspace accounts. That was really fun. I felt in touch with what they were doing. However, I did hear them say they don't use the account much anymore and have moved onto something else (didn't catch what that was). My space might be going out.

Social Networking

I think libraries getting envolved in social networking is great. We are a good influence on teens, and by offering them a site in, for example, my space, we become a place for teens to turn. I hope the library always stays in center of the teenage world as well as in the center of everyone's world. It's obvious that the internet has changed everything and we must change with it.

Blogline's Search Tool

I liked the bloglines search tool the best. To my surprise, it was a tool I turned to last after Feedster and the other feeds proved more frustrating. Part of the problem might have been that I ran into firewall here at work.

Overall, I found it harder to go to my favorite sites and searching for feeds. Blogline's search tool gave me feeds beforehand. This sure is interesting, and I'm learning a lot!! 'Walking Paper and 'Tame the Web' sound really interesting!!

NPR rss feed

Again, this was great fun to enter into a world I've never heard of. I've always liked NPR and now to be able to get syndicated news without adds is great!! I imagine I'll use this a lot. Up until this point, I've always just listened to NPR

Retrievr frog

I was really delighted to find retrievr. This was so great and absolutely fun. Nothing could be more wonderful that drawing (and in different colors in the same picture) and finding pictures to match. I could do this forever

It was great discovering Flicker. I'd never been there before. I found this terrific flower that I just wanted to share with you!!!

27 Things Plus

I'm excited about doing 27 things because of all that I will learn. It's great to learn anytime, but it's especially great to have a job where you can learn as you work. It's exciting to become more knowledgeable about the technology that is available today--technology that I will use both on the job and in my personal life.
